Some nouns have one meaning in the singular, two in the plural.

Singular — Plural

  1. Coat-of-mail — coats-of-mail
  2. Son-in-Law — sons-in-law
  3. Die — dies, stamps for coining, dice, small cubes used in games.
  4. Index — indexes, tables of contents to books, indices, signs used in algebra.
  5. brethren, members of a society or a community.
  6. Cloth — cloths, kinds or pieces of cloth, clothes, garments.
  7. Brother — brothers, sons of the same parent.
  8. Commander-in-chief — commanders-in-chief

Singular — Plural

  1. Light: (1) radiance, (2) a lamp — Lights: lamps.
  2. People: (1) nation, (2) men and women — Peoples: nations.
  3. Practice: (1) habit (2) exercise of a profession — Practices: habits.
  4. Powder: (1)dust, (2) a dose of medicine in fine grains like dust – Powders: doses of
    medicine.
